KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 24 September 2022 – Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC), the sole distributor for Ford in Malaysia, today unveiled the next-generation Ford Everest, which blends adventure-ready capability with exceptional comfort and customer-focused technology in a rugged, refined and fun-to-drive SUV.

For more choice, three grades of the seven-seater luxury SUV are offered in the next-generation Everest line-up – Sport (available in two-wheel drive), Trend (available in four-wheel drive) and the high-spec 4WD Titanium.

“The Ford Everest has been celebrated over the world as the perfect companion for those who love adventure, recreation and going out with family and friends. With amazing capability at its core, a quiet and refined sanctuary on the inside, class-leading technologies and safety standards, we believe the next-generation Everest will widen its appeal in the market,” said DJ Simpson, managing director, Ford Asia Pacific Distributor Markets.

“Everest customers lead busy lives, juggling work, family time, a social life and recreation. Their aspirations and adventurous spirits drive them to push the limits always. And they appreciate the utility, capability and spaciousness of an SUV. Next-gen Everest is the ideal companion to help them master every milestone, while striking a perfect balance in life,” said Turse Zuhair, Managing Director, Sime Darby Auto ConneXion-Ford.

Tough outside and engineered for adventure

Ford engineers have lengthened the next-generation Everest’s wheelbase by 50mm. The track has also increased by 50mm. These changes combine to provide better on-road control and off-road articulation as well as improved approach and departure angles. Further tweaks to the damper settings allow for more fun and control in the Everest’s ride, both on- and off-road.

The wider track and longer wheelbase enabled designers to create a more progressive and muscular appearance.

A strong shoulder line extends from front to rear to emphasise the length of the vehicle. The wider track results in a more dramatic swell over the wheels, enhancing the next-gen Everest’s strong, sleek and modern look.

Designers have also increased the angle of the rear glass and pillar and the size of the rear window to allow more light into the third row.

Ford’s global design DNA is reflected in the C-clamp LED daytime running lights (DRL) integrated with a full-width horizontal grille bar, resulting in a sophisticated yet strong front fascia styling. The theme continues at the back with an integrated full-width LED taillamps.

The Sport and Trend get LED headlamps while the Titanium features Ford’s latest Matrix LED headlamps with glare-free high beam to provide maximum visibility without dazzling other road users. The Matrix headlamps also offer dynamic and static bending capability and speed-dependent lighting, which can adjust the length of the light beam according to the vehicle’s speed. LED front and rear fog lamps and LED stop lamps come standard across the entire range.

The new roof rails are more than just a design detail; they’re engineered for adventure. The next-gen Everest rooftop provides versatility that enables it to carry bikes, canoes, cargo pod or roof-top tent.

In terms of wheels, the Sport and Titanium come equipped with 20-inch alloys, while the Trend rides on 18-inch alloys.

Next-gen Ford Everest has a water wading ability up to 800mm and ground clearance of 200mm.

The next-gen Everest Titanium carries forward the hands-free power liftgate and now features a new dual panel panoramic sunroof.

A complete sanctuary within

What customers wanted on the interior was a different story. Inside, they wanted a sanctuary.

One of the first things customers will notice when they get into the next-gen Everest is how quiet it is, making it easier to talk to passengers in the second and third row seats.

Designers also put a lot of thought into the function and feel of the interior, taking inspiration from modern homes and bringing in plush materials, premium finishes and ambient lighting all in areas where customers can appreciate them the best.

Next-gen Everest’s sense of spaciousness is amplified by the full-width coast-to-coast instrument panel and there are 10 cup holders in total located at the centre console, armrest, dash-mounted ‘pop out’ holders and in the rear.

There is more elbow, leg and shoulder room in the front and back and access to the third-row seats is much easier thanks to second-row seats that slide further forward than before.

Ford has prioritised flexible seating in the next-gen Everest, with power folding seats on the Titanium. The second and third row seats have been designed to fold flat to allow for long loads to be carried safely.

To stop items from falling out of the back when the tailgate is lifted, designers created a small lip, affectionately known as the “apple catcher” valley, at the rear of the cargo area. There is also an underfloor storage space that helps keep the rear of the Everest organised.

The next-generation Everest also features an electronic parking brake (with an e-Shifter in the Titanium), three 12V sockets, premium black leather seats now with eight-way power adjustable seats for the driver and front passenger and ebony interior trim.

Additionally, the Titanium has a 230V AC power outlet capable of delivering 400W (up from 150W).

Customer-focused technology

In addition to a more refined and comfortable interior, Ford focused on incorporating the latest connectivity and technology features into the next-gen Everest.

At the heart of next-gen Everest’s connectivity is a first-in-class large, high-resolution portrait 12-inch touchscreen in the Titanium (10.1-inch for the Trend and Sport), loaded with Ford’s latest SYNC® 4A infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ connectivity and eight speakers.

The next-generation Everest Titanium is also fitted with a 360-degree camera with split-view display while the Trend and Sport are equipped with reverse cameras in addition to front and rear sensors.

All versions of the next-gen Ford Everest also come standard with 8-inch or 12-inch digital instrument panels that replace the traditional analogue clusters, four USB charging ports (one of which is windscreen-mounted) and a wireless Qi charger.

Proven engine line-up

Both next-generation Everest Trend and Titanium are powered by the proven 2.0L Bi-Turbo powertrain that is mated to Ford’s efficient 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, which delivers 210 PS @ 3,500 rpm and peak torque of 500Nm @ 1,750-2,000 rpm.

Both variants are also equipped with the part-time 4x4 electronic shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) system with e-Locking Rear Differential and six selectable drive modes: Normal, Eco, Tow/Haul, Slippery, Mud/Ruts and Sand.

Meanwhile, the next-gen Everest Sport features the 2.0L Single Turbo diesel with a six-speed automatic transmission to offer power output of 170 PS @ 3,500 rpm and max torque of 405Nm @ 1,750-2,000 rpm. It also offers four selectable drive modes: Normal, Eco, Tow/Haul and Slippery).

Confidence-inspiring safety and driver assist technologies

Whether conquering off-road trails or city traffic, the next-generation Ford Everest comes loaded with new and enhanced driver assist technologies to deliver a greater level of safety than ever before.

For occupant protection, all variants come with seven airbags (driver and front passenger, dual seat side, dual side curtains that cover all three rows and driver’s knee) and an underbody protection bash.

Active safety features across the next-gen Everest range include Isofix mount points, ABS, EBD, electronic stability control (ESC) with traction control, emergency brake assist (EBA), hill descent control, hill launch assist, roll-over mitigation and adaptive load control.

In terms of driver assistance features, the next-gen Everest Sport and Trend come equipped with emergency stop signal, turn assist, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors and a reverse camera.

The high-grade next-gen Everest Titanium adds on a range of advanced driver assistance systems including blind spot information system (BLIS), lane departure warning & assist (LDW), high beam assist and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Other new and enhanced technologies include:
  • New: Adaptive cruise control with stop and go and lane centering is able to detect lane markings and help keep the vehicle centred in the lane.
  • New: Active Park Assist 2.0 allows next-gen Everest to help drivers into parallel or perpendicular spots with the press of a button. With the aid of ultrasonic sensors, the system takes care of the steering, gearshifts, acceleration and braking to navigate into tight parking spots. It will also help steer the vehicle out of a parallel parking spot.
  • New: Evasive steer assist helps drivers avoid potential forward collisions by helping drivers steer with less effort when a collision cannot be avoided by braking alone.
  • New: Reverse brake assist helps drivers to reverse into parking spots and other tight spaces by providing audible and visual warnings. It can detect a vehicle crossing or a cyclist or pedestrian behind the vehicle too. The system can even bring the Everest to a complete stop if the driver doesn’t react in time.
  • New: Rear cross-traffic alert warns of traffic approaching from the sides when the vehicle is in reverse, which helps when backing out of a driveway or parking spot.
  • Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, dynamic brake support and pre-collision assist. Besides preventing or reducing the severity of a collision with a vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist directly in front of the vehicle, the pre-collision assist has been enhanced to provide emergency braking support at an intersection.
