    How to automatically update your phone contacts

    After you’ve downloaded your phonebook, just say a contact’s name to have SYNC® call them. With auto-updating, your contacts will be updated each time you connect your phone.
    1. Press the ‘Phone’ button.
    2. Scroll and select ‘Phone Settings’ by pressing OK.
    3. Select ‘Phonebook Preferences’.
    4. Select ‘Auto-download’.
    Quick Tip: Even if SYNC® is automatically updating your contacts every time it connects to your phone, these details are only accessible when that particular phone is connected.

    How to delete a paired phone

    If you’ve bought a new phone and need to delete your old one from the system, it takes only a few steps.
    1. Press the ‘Voice’ button. SYNC® will ask for a command.
    2. Say: “Phone”. SYNC® will confirm your command.
    3. Say: “Connection”.
    4. Say: “Delete ”. Then press ‘Delete’ using the corresponding console button.
    Quick Tip: We recommend that you delete paired phones you no longer use before pairing new phones with SYNC®.

    How to pair your mobile phone

    To use your phone hands-free with SYNC®, you need to pair it first. Make sure your phone’s Bluetooth® is turned on.
    1. Press the ‘Phone’ button.
    2. Say: “Phone”. SYNC® will confirm your command.
    3. Enter the PIN that appears on the radio display under Bluetooth® settings in your phone.
    4. Wait until ‘Pairing Successful!’ message appears. Your phone is now paired.
    5. SYNC® may ask if you want to download your phonebook and call history. Select ‘Yes or No’ by pressing the corresponding console button.
    Quick Tip: If you have more than one paired phone, SYNC® will ask if you want to make one your primary phone. SYNC® will automatically connect to this phone first if there’s more than one paired phone in the car.

    How to speak to SYNC®

    Steering wheel
    1. Press the ‘Voice’ button
    2. SYNC® will say, “Please say a command.” When you hear the single tone, say a command in the direction of the microphone.
    3. SYNC® will confirm the command or ask you to say another one.
    Tips:
    • SYNC® can only hear you when it’s in Listening mode, after you have pressed the Voice button and SYNC® has finished speaking.
    • Don’t speak while SYNC® is speaking, it will not be able to hear you.
    • Try to reduce background noise while speaking to make sure SYNC® hears the command correctly.
    How to switch between phones

    You can have more than one phone paired, so SYNC® makes it easy to switch between any one of them.
    1. Press the ‘Phone’ button.
    2. Say: “Phone”. SYNC® will confirm your command.
    3. Select the phone you’d like to use and press ‘Conn.’
    Quick Tip: More than one paired phone in the car? If you don’t have a chosen primary phone in the car, SYNC® will automatically connect to the most recently paired phone first.
  • Phone Calls and Text Messages
    How to answer or reject incoming calls

    Once your phone is connected to SYNC®, you can answer or reject calls with the touch of a button.
    1. To answer a call, press the green ‘Phone’ button on the steering wheel.
    2. To reject or cancel a call, press and hold the red phone button.
    Quick Tip: If you plug your phone into the USB port, it will recharge while you drive. A special connection cable may be required for some devices. Sold separately.

    How to call a phone contact

    If you’ve downloaded your phonebook, you can use simple voice commands to call any of your contacts by name.
    1. Press the ‘Voice’ button. SYNC® will ask for a command.
    2. Say: “Call”.
    3. If there’s more than one number, SYNC® will ask you to say which number. e.g. Say: “Mobile, Home or Work”.
    4. If there’s more than one number in a category, SYNC® will ask you to say which number. e.g. Say: “Line 2”.
    5. To end your call, press and hold the red phone button on your steering wheel.
    Quick Tip: Remember to say your phone contact names exactly as they appear such as Cos, Mark; Mark C or Cos, M.

    How to dial a number, hands-free

    With hands-free calling, you can ask SYNC® to dial any number with your voice.
    • Press the ‘Voice’ button. SYNC® will ask for a command
    • Say: “Dial”. SYNC® will then ask for the number.
    • Say the number, digit by digit, e.g. 1-2-3.
    • Say: “Dial”.
    • To end your call, press and hold the red phone button on your steering wheel.
    Quick Tip: If you make a mistake, say: “Delete” – to cancel the last number, OR “Clear” – to delete all numbers and start again.

    How to listen to a text message

    Keep your eyes on the road and let SYNC® read you your incoming text messages. It even understands common emoticons and abbreviations.
    1. Press the ‘Voice’ button. SYNC® will ask for a command.
    2. Say: “Read message”.
    Note: Wait approximately 15 seconds until the incoming text pop-up window disappears from the screen to use this feature.

    Quick Tip: SYNC® recognises emoticons and popular text abbreviations.

    *Local laws may prohibit the use of this feature while driving. Check your local road rules. This feature may not be available in all countries.
  • Music and Entertainment
    How to play music on other devices
    1. Plug your music device into the auxiliary port in your car.*
    2. Press the ‘Voice’ button. SYNC® will ask for a command.
    3. Say: “Line In” (selects the source).**
    4. Say it again: “Line In” (starts playing your music)
    * Connection cable sold separately.
    **A special connection cable may be required for some devices. Sold separately.

    Quick Tip: If you’re not sure what to say, just say “Help” and SYNC® will suggest commands you can use.

    How to stream music from your paired phone

    Play your favourite music from your paired phone with a few simple commands.
    1. Press the ‘Voice’ button. SYNC® will ask for a command.
    2. Say: “Bluetooth® audio”. SYNC® will confirm your command.
    3. Say: “Play”.
    4. Once your music’s playing, it’s easy to change what you’re listening to. Press the ‘Voice’ button and say either: “Next track”, “Previous track”
    Quick Tip: The first time you connect a device to SYNC®, it may take a few seconds to access your media library.

    How to play music on your USB device or iPod

    Use your voice to browse through media players like your iPod, or ask SYNC® to play songs by name.
    1. Plug your USB drive or media player into your car’s USB port.
    2. Press the ‘Voice’ button. SYNC® will ask for a command.
    3. Say: “USB”. SYNC® will confirm your command.
    4. To start playing music, say any of the following:
      - “Shuffle on”
      - “Play all”
      - “Play artist
      - “Play album
      - “Play genre
      - “Play playlist
      - “Play track
    5. Once music is playing, press the ‘Voice’ button and say any of the previous commands, as well as:
      - “Next track/Previous track”
      - “Repeat on/Repeat off”
      - “Shuffle off”
      - “What’s playing”
      - “Pause”
      - “Similar music”

    Quick Tip: When you say a title or name, you need to say it exactly as it appears on your media player. e.g. don’t just say, “Play Star Wars.” Say, “Play album, Star Wars the motion picture soundtrack.”
